Tulips on Troost

An Initiative for change

  • Tulips on Troost, a project of the Southtown Foundation, aims to change the face of Troost Avenue by planting one million tulips along the Avenue by 2010. Through this mission, we hope to inspire and motivate the citizens of Kansas City to recognize the value of neighborhood revitalization and beautification in some of the city's most historic districts. Tulips are just on the surface—our deep-rooted goal is to use a beautiful, accessible thing like a tulip to represent positive change on Troost and to let the city know that Troost is worth our time, efforts, and resources.

If you already have joined the Facebook Tulips on Troost CAUSE, you maybe already know this. If you haven't already joined....what's the matter with you? Go sign up now and then recruit all your Facebook friends and mysterious persons.

We need to know SOON how many of you are going to sign up to VOLUNTEER for our Annual New Year's Day Tulip Plantings. Because only if you tell us SOON, can we be sure to have enough tulip bulbs on hand for each of you to plant your one square foot of tulips.

Yep, that's all we ask of you on New Year's Day. One Square Foot. Even those of you who don't know how to dress properly for the cold temp can handle that.

Send us an email today (durwinrice@durwinrice.com) or call (816) 812-8530 to sign up to help. We'll meet at the New Hoboken Capitol Building at 10AM, Thursday, January 1, 2009....4518 Troost Avenue.

If you CAN'T be with us in KC, you CAN still support the TOT reclamation of Troost Avenue by donating $5 (provided you are a Facebook TOT Cause member) to save a square foot of Troost's tulips OR by planting tulips in your own garden on New Year's Day...it will warm us up to know you're out there doing that! OR, donate $10 and we'll send you 10 tulip bulbs for your at home New Year's Day planting event.
